The Ancient Coin Collectors Guild has become a driving force in the ongoing effort to protect coin collectors and museums in which coins are stored from being forced to give up these items to foreign governments under the premise the coins are the cultural patrimony of the claimant nation. — Richard Giedroyc, World Coin News April 26, 2010

Southern California YN selected for ACCG Scholarship

The ANA Summer Seminar scholarship sponsored by the ACCG has been awarded to Matt Raab.

May 08, 2007

The ACCG funds an annual scholarship for a Young Numismatist to study ancient coins at the American Numismatic Association Summer Seminar in Colorado Springs. The 2007 recipient of this ACCG scholarship is Southern California teen Matt Raab. The ACCG offers its congratulations to this outstanding YN. Matt will be attending Summer Seminar Session I, June 24-29, 2007. He has enrolled in the Roman Republic and Early Empire class, instructed by Scott Rottinghaus, M.D. Students in this class will explore Roman-era economics, art, religion, language, technology and politics through a hands-on learning experience.

Matt began collecting U.S. coins nearly eight years ago but has a budding interest in ancient coins. He is the editor-in-chief of The Young Numismatist, a quarterly publication of the Young Numismatists of America. Matt is a freshman at Santa Monica College, majoring in business administration. He is also a former employee of Superior Galleries and in 2006 he headed the ANA’s Summer Seminar scholarship auction.

The annual ACCG Scholarship is an initiative of the guild's Education and Youth Programs Task Force. The scholarship provides funding for transportation, tuition, room and board at the Colorado College facility where classes are held. Applications are filed and processed through the ANA scholarship program at http://www.money.org with applicants being age 18 or less. Recipients of this scholarship are required to take a class related to Ancient numismatics.
